The Girl and the Moa Chapter 5

Early the next morning I woke everybody up. I told  the girls to all wear headdresses and sprinkle fern seeds in their feathers. I told the boys to wear arm bands and our best warriors should wear red root mush in their feathers. “Why would we do that,” asked Kkambun. 

“Well Kambun, I saw some humans and they ran away shouting. It gave me the idea of making them think we are magical.  Of course that was a lie, but hopefully they would forgive her, Moona tried to convince herself. 

“Okay” said Adora, her leader, “we will do this but it has to be worth it Moona. 

“Thank you,” said Moona.

Later in the morning I went to go see Glory. When I got to the river, she was already there. I said, “Have you been tricking your tribe good?”

“ Yes” said Glory, “ How about you?”

I said, “ I told the girls to wear head dresses and to put fern seeds in their feathers and I told the boys to wear arm bands. The best warriors will put red root mush in their feathers.”

“That seems good”  I said, “My tribe was going to attack yours but as long as your birds don’t come in our camp, we’ll be okay…I think.”

“That’s great,” Moona said, “Let’s keep meeting at the river over the next few days and update each other.”

 The next day…

I came running to the river as fast as I could and spotted Moona when I got there. “ I thought your birds weren’t coming to our camp!”

“ I know,” said Moona, “One of our chicks was taken and two of our warriors thought it was you and went running to your camp without telling our leader. I’m so sorry. What did you do?”

I replied, “We took them and tried to question them but of course they didn’t speak our language. Though now, my people don’t think they are magical because they can’t speak our language!”

“Oh no!” Said Moona. “Should we make a new plan?”

“No, we already did, remember the meeting plan? I think we should do that one.Tomorrow we need to meet here in the early morning and you need to take me to your camp.”

Moona replied, “I  could make you fake wings out of ferns to disguise you and take you to our chief.”

“Good idea!” I said. “Let’s do it.”
